So how did I become the Ten Minute Man?

It’s a bit of a paradox to say, but it has been a long journey of many years that has brought me to see the value in such a short period of time.

I started my life in the UK, and by the age of 21 was running my own leasing company.  Not bad for a kid that hadn’t done that well at maths.

We weathered the big GFC in the late eighties and from there I needed to get into something else and I moved – by sheer accident – into training. It actually started as a dare, where I was challenged to run a training course for a day for a University and found I was good at it! The feedback I got at the end of that day was better than the experienced trainer who had dared me to do it. And thus a new chapter began. Over the next 30 years, I built and sold a number of companies in leasing, training consultancy and business communications that operated across the globe. At the same time, I was also sought after as a facilitator and conference speaker at major events around the world.

In 2008, I sold my last business in the UK to a listed company, with a view to setting up the business for them here in Australia and at the same time starting up a new life in Australia with the family.

A few changes happened along the way. Having set up the business up here, I found that my entrepreneurial approach was at odds with the company who had bought my business. So I bought the Australian company back from them and created the growth I knew was possible. This became The Learning Experience International Pty Ltd which now operates around world, with its base in Sydney, Australia.

Things were going really well, but like many businesses, when the COVID-19 Pandemic struck it had a significant impact on us – especially since a large part of our business was conducted internationally and now global travel had ceased! So what do you do when life serves up lemons? You make lemonade!

The upside of COVID-19 for me personally was for the first time in 30 years, I actually had the time to stop and think about what I wanted to do next. And that was to recognize a goal I’d had for many years – to write a book.

For many like me, the emergence of COVID 19 has forced us to ask ‘what’? What’s going wrong in my life? What’s fulfilling me and what’s draining me? What are my goals? What are my skills? WHAT DO I DO NEXT? Our lives are an endless cycle of ‘what’s’….so that’s why I wrote Ten Minute Tactics©  – as a way to refine, define and put these ‘what’s’ into action – getting us on the road to that exciting, fulfilling life which we’ve always dreamed of.

Too often, we see great models and approaches that are not properly followed due to a lack of understanding of ‘but what do I need to do next?’ to get results. Ten Minute Tactics© aims to bridge this gap and offers a genuinely simple, but far from simplistic approach.
